Volunteer Roles
None of our programs require you to have any previous experience. For example, you don’t have to be a great soccer player to volunteer in TOP Soccer or have experience in theatre to help with ACTS Jr. Whichever program you choose, we do ask that you consider committing to attend every session. Here is a quick outline of what you will be doing as a volunteer with Community Connections. You are probably more qualified than you think!

All of our programs have one or more Program Directors that lead the different activities. Our participants may have a variety of physical, cognitive, or emotional disabilities. Volunteers help the participants by breaking down complex tasks into smaller steps, performing activities together, and helping switch from one task to another. To do this, you are partnered up with one or more participants and become their buddy for the duration of the program. A large role of a sports volunteer is to cheer your buddy on and help modify activities as needed to allow them to experience success.

Our arts and theatre (ACTS Jr.) programs are a lot of fun. As a volunteer you will be partnered up with one or more participants to help them with the activities the Program Director is leading. Our participants may have a variety of physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges and need help switching from one activity to another or following multistep processes. Our most successful volunteers come alongside our participants, assist when needed, and encourage them to be creative and have fun.

A great friend is one who is wonderful to be around—who gets you, knows your struggles and helps you make good decisions. In our Respite Care and social programs (Parent Support Group, Teen Game Group, Young Adult Social Group), our participants need volunteers that want to be a great friend. Program Directors are always present to help with any concerns, yet most of the time volunteering is assisting with activities and play in a friendly, encouraging, and safe environment.
Volunteer Training Program
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Community Connections! Passionate volunteers like you make all the difference in the lives of our participants. The purpose of this volunteer training program is to inform volunteers about the Community Connections volunteer experience, expectations, roles and responsibilities. This one-time training is required prior to starting the volunteer experience. It is essential for volunteers to be educated, trained, and confident in providing children and families in the community with the care they need.
